Traditional Tequila Blanco with a Crisp Agave Flavor
Tequila Hacienda Sahuayo (NOM 1511) 40% alcohol is a tasty white tequila and one of the few that is made in the state of Michoacan. The company also makes a tequila blanco suave, as well as a reposado, añejo, cristalino and extra anejo.
Hacienda Sahuayo also produces the brand Tlahualil which seems to be a higher-end special edition tequila.
Not a lot of people are aware of where Tequila comes from, those who do know that the origins of Tequila began in the town Tequila Jalisco. The state of Jalisco is the main state in Mexico where most of the popular Tequilas are made, however, there are four other states that are also allowed to produce it, one of those is Michoacan.
It had been several years since I last had a bottle of Tequila Hacienda Sahuayo, last week I decided to take a trip to Sahuayo Michoacan to get some carnitas from one of my favorite restaurants. On the way there I stopped by a local liquor store to pick up a bottle of Tequila Hacienda Sahuayo.
I noticed they are pushing their tequila suave which I may try in the future but personally find their traditional blanco very smooth as it is.
The bottle’s presentation is a classic round bottle with the embossed letters of the Tequila Sahuayo brand, the printed label is a grey and white color and has a picture of the hacienda on the label.
My first sip gave off an earthy agave flavor with hints of pepper, the agave flavor finishes smooth while the peppery accents remain.
This is truly an excellent tasting Tequila that is great for sipping right out of the bottle, I know some may like to mix it but I personally feel it would be a sin to do so.
I paid $307.00 pesos for a liter bottle which is about $16.00 U.S.D which is a great bargain for a great tasting Tequila.
Hacienda Sahuayo Tequila can be found in many stores throughout Mexico they have a list of stores in the different states here. It seems in the U.S it is sold online on a website called Old Town Tequila.
Tequila Hacienda Sahuayo Blanco is a great tasting white tequila that offers a crisp flavor that is great for sipping straight out of the bottle and I feel would mix well in some drinks, I personally would hate to ruin it that way but if you ever see a bottle you should pick one up you won’t regret it.
